Hornsea is a coastal town in the East Riding of Yorkshire, around 30 miles down the coast from our base in Scarborough, past Bridlington and Flamborough Head. We work across Hornsea and the surrounding area, on both residential and commercial projects.
The town is best known for Hornsea Mere, immediately to its west — the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, covering around 467 acres and the only glacial lake left in the East Riding. It's a Site of Special Scientific Interest, internationally important for wintering wildfowl, which gives the town a genuinely different backdrop to the beach on its other side. Hornsea's own conservation area covers around 61 hectares of the town and holds 23 listed buildings. East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the planning authority here, doesn't hold an Article 4 direction over Hornsea — we checked its published list directly rather than assuming — so planning follows the normal permitted-development framework, with the usual extra care needed for anything inside the conservation area itself or affecting a listed building.
