Common questions
Straight answers on loft conversions.
Many loft conversions fall under permitted development, provided the added roof space stays within the volume limits (40 cubic metres for a terraced house, 50 for detached or semi-detached) and no extension goes beyond the plane of the existing roof slope at the front. Conservation areas and listed buildings are different. Building regulations approval is always required.
